the best 4 years

I can not believe it's been 4 years since Wilson and I married! We decided to take a day and go downtown to celebrate. We stayed at El Tropicano on the riverwalk and loved it! The hotel is remodeled with a mid century Cuban or Florida feel; think Ricky Ricardo meets the Enchanted Tiki Room. We were greeted with a room upgrade and Happy Anniversary wishes, but I think my favorite part of the entire hotel was the agua fresca that they serve; I had mango dreams that night.

The hotel had a resident toucan in a two story habitat. But he doesn't let those windows get him down; we saw him fly into them as if he still thought he could go straight out to the lobby. Or maybe he's just nearsighted.

We thought he was alone in there, but after we walked around the habitat we saw that he had a roommate:
We thought it was so random for a toucan and a turtle to be living together; like some plot in a children's book. Later on when we were walking around the second floor looking down we saw two HUGE iguanas sitting in the toucan's tree. After exploring the hotel we hopped a trolley and headed downtown for some dinner.

We had dinner at Rita's on the Riverwalk. The food was good, the prices were good, but our service was terrible. Between the bees circling our table, our MIA server, and some out of control mariachis you can probably see why Wilson managed to capture this look on my face.

After dinner we went to the Tower of the Americas. Wilson's never been and it was time to cross that off his list. It's a 750 foot tower built for the '68 World's Fair with a restaurant and and observation deck on top.
The panoramic views from the tower are amazing. This church is one of my favorite things in downtown San Antonio. It's a German church that refused to sell it's land even when the department store Joske's bought the surrounding land; people gave it the nickname St. Joske's. Although I guess these days it's more like St. Dillard's. If you look above the store and slightly to the right you can see the small domed roof of the Alamo; that tree lined area is Alamo square.

The curved highway is 281 which takes us north to where we live. If nothing else, this little adventure helped Wilson understand exactly how far outside the city that we live. I kept having to say "Do you see the line where the sky meets the land? That's called a horizon. And that's where we live." Although I did manage to find the little bump that was his hotel in the distance.

The hotel we stayed out is the bright white building in the center of the shot.

The Alamodome where the spurs used to play, and where some of my best high school marching band memories were made

This was the best picture we could get when we were on the observation deck of the tower. The wind, as you can imagine, was pretty ridiculous and with no hair tie this was one of the few shots were you could see both of our faces.

Most of the time it just looked like this:

Even though it's Wilson that is new to the city, I'm discovering more and more things that I love about it; just like I'm discovering more and more things that I love about my husband. I still can't believe what a great match we are and how much happiness he brings in my life and I only hope that it stays that way for a long time. Like forever ♥

Congratulations! Look in the family album and you will see a 360 degree panorama I took from the tower back in the mid 90's. Some day it will be amazing to see the changes.
